Rajan's business profile

Rajan was a highly qualified professional in many disciplines in Science, Engineering and Technology, with experience at senior level in consultancy and management in a wide range of industry sectors. This rich diversity encouraged a multidisciplinary holistic approach and his motto/ slogan was Question, Understand, Simplify, Dream and Innovate. This approach helped him to be at the forefront of the development and implementation of innovative solutions, methodologies and frameworks. In 1968 he pioneered the development of spreadsheet modelling as an aid to evaluating alternative business strategies. The model he developed in Fortran for use on the new IBM 360 was used by Save & Prosper to assist in development of their new insurance linked unit trust business and their acquisition strategy during the takeover of competitor Ebor Securities. Through action learning he developed frameworks for the design, implementation and management of business change using integrated agile enterprise wide information systems and business processes incorporating new technologies. He called these "Simple Architectures and Models" (SAM) and "Mixed Open Methods" (MOM) which formed the basis of the overarching methodology TABSIS (Think Ahead, Think Big, Start Small, Implement in Stages. These help organisations to create visions, to turn these visions into reality and to grow and prosper through the effective use of developing technologies and their people. Rajan was an international management consultant, author of several publications and speaker at numerous conferences and seminars in the UK and abroad. He was an innovator and enjoyed helping to create new organisations/institutions/groups. A strong advocate of the mutual benefits of collaboration he assisted and encouraged the exchange/transfer of knowledge, skills and experience between academia, industry and the professions. He was also an experienced coach and mentor to a wide range of clients from students to chief executives.
